Dylan Mulvaney’s Bud Light Ad Sparks Heated Debate and Mixed Reactions

Bud Light’s attempt to broaden its customer base by partnering with a transgender influencer may backfire. But experts say inclusive marketing is just a good business idea—and it’s here to stay.

“A few years from now, we’ll look back on this ‘controversy’ with the same embarrassment we feel when we look back on ‘controversies’ involving things from the past like interracial couples in advertising,” chief marketing Sarah Reynolds told Human the Reported told the official resource for HiBob for the forum, which identifies as Queer.

Mulvaney, who recently put on a variety show to celebrate the first anniversary of her transition, said she will “never stop making people laugh and learning”.

“And going forward, I want to share the parts of me here that have nothing to do with me, and I hope those parts are still exciting and sufficient for you. And for those of you who Support my humanity and choose to watch — even if you don’t fully understand or relate to me — thank you,” she said.

The company’s stock plummeted as a result of the partnership, and other companies such as Maybelline and Nike that partnered with Mulvaney responded.

Mulvaney joked that in her next life, she would like to be reincarnated as “someone non-confrontational and uncontroversial”.

Mulvaney was also chosen by sportswear brand Nike to endorse its sports bra. The TikTok star announced the partnership with a post titled “Media alert—I’m entering my workout era.” In the picture, Mulvaney is seen wearing Nike workout gear and the newly launched sports bra.

Soon after the announcement, Nike also faced strong backlash for ignoring its female target audience and giving opportunities to “biological men”.

While Nike has defended Mulvaney, public figures such as Olly London and Caitlyn Jenner have strongly criticized the sportswear brand for marginalizing and openly whitewashing biological women.

Bud Light Controversy

The brewers’ other brands, including Michelob Ultra, Natural Light, Budweiser and Busch Light, are being sucked into the vortex and have recently suffered painful sales declines, as reported by The Post.

The company’s distributors have been particularly hard hit, with Bud Light sales falling by nearly 30% in some cases and promotional events for Clydesdales having to be cancelled.
